With the Cathedral’s building and grounds being historically significant and complex, this role is key to ensuring that the Cathedral and its estate is well maintained and safe for visitors, residents and those who work and volunteer at the Cathedral. The postholder will need to build collaborative relationships to manage the cyclical and reactive maintenance across the estate, ensure health and safety practices are adhered to and be able to project manage specialist pieces of fabric work working with the Cathedral Architect, Cathedral Archaeologist, the Fabric Advisory Committee and other experts and contractors. We are seeking a person who will commit to building up knowledge of the complexities of the Cathedral building and the intricacies of the estate.

The Head of Property and Fabric is a member of the Cathedral’s Senior Management Team. They are central to the successful operation, safety and security of the Cathedral. The role works collegiately with staff teams and volunteers across the Cathedral as well as with external stakeholders including contractors, advisers and statutory bodies. Being able to build relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of different stakeholders is therefore an essential requirement for this post as well as having excellent organisation, planning and communication skills.

The role encompasses, for the Cathedral building, its grounds and all Chapter owned properties:

•          Planning and client management of specialist fabric contracted works and projects 
•          Oversight of all maintenance, repairs and upkeep contracts
•          Regular property inspections and oversight of third-party inspections
•          Lead on health and safety matters
•          Lead on strategic security matters
•          Liaison with local authorities, regulators and insurers on works and health and safety matters
•          Working with other staff and volunteers, take a key role in the further development and implementation of our Environmental Strategy
•          Working with other staff and volunteers, take a key role in advising Chapter on next steps in response to the recent property review 
 
The role is supported by two part time posts, currently an Administration Assistant working 10 hours a week over 2 days and a Project Support Executive, based within the Cathedral office team and who supports specific projects one day a week. It is anticipated the appointed post holder will review the support roles required to meet the needs of the department going forward. 

As a member of the Cathedral’s Senior Management Team, the post holds collective responsibility for the delivery of the Cathedral’s overall vision and priorities. The post holder attends Senior Management Team meetings and reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The role is full time and on site/office based.
